The Joke That is Miss USA
Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at 04:52PM **Updates Below**
Miss USA Tara Connor was thought to be replaced in disgrace by Donald Trump this week after allegations of cocaine use, bi-sexual engagements with Miss Teen USA, slutty behavior and excessive partying finally caught up with her. Trump owns the Miss USA and Miss Universe contests. According to the New York Daily News, the Miss USA winner...
Conner recently tested positive for cocaine and has been spotted drinking in several Chelsea clubs. She's also been slammed for leading her younger counterpart - Miss Teen USA Katie Blair - astray.
The 18-year-old Blair was spotted out for drinks with Conner and her pals at the Chelsea club Ultra on Dec. 8 and was even seen joining in steamy liplocks with her former roommate.
Ew.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has severed ties with both the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA organizations.
The Official Miss USA rules include:
1. MISS USA: I will be at least eighteen (18) and under twenty-seven (27) years of age on February 1, 2006.
5. I am of good health and moral character.
6. I represent that I have not and will not engage in any activities which, if disclosed to the public, would bring, or tend to bring, myself, my state director, the MISS USA® / TEEN USA® Pageant, The Trump Organization..... into disrepute, ridicule or contempt not limited to, but to include any type of use of illegal drugs , any other illegal behavior or activity, professional or amateur nude or semi-nude dancing or modeling in any sexually oriented business or club, any type of nude or semi-nude photographs or video tapes, prostitution, any felony conviction, probation or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.
Failure of the winning contestant to comply with any of the terms, provisions, restrictions or obligations hereof shall at the option of Washington USA Pageants and the State Pageant Director shall result in entrant’s disqualification, loss of title and return of any and all prizes awarded.
Donald Trump, having a “heart of gold”, decided to give Connor a second chance. Here's the video:
Oh boo-hoo and gag me with a spoon.
The question is, at what point do rules mean anything? Second chances are great and we all need them, but what is the message here? It could be that if you're pretty or sexy enough you can get away with just about anything. It could be that young American girls are more and more inclined toward bad behavior, catching up with their male counterparts. It could be that femininity is out and sleaze is in. One thing is for sure, Miss USA is looking more like a stripper than a "miss", more like a 'ho' than a role model to emulate.
The answer is obvious: the Miss USA pageant is a joke. No one including the contestants take it seriously.
Of course, with a new study out suggesting 9 out of 10 Americans have had sex before marriage, none of this should be a surprise.
John Gibson of The Big Story on Fox asked Danny Bonaduce, who has publicly received multiple chances for redemption, about his take on the Miss USA scandal. I'm liking Bondaduce more every day. You have to watch it:

NEW YORK — A day after Donald Trump spared the beauty queen career of Miss USA Tara Conner, one of his state pageant winners has lit a white-hot photo fire for the millionaire to extinguish.
Raunchy pics of Katie Rees, Miss Nevada 2007, surfaced Wednesday on the Web, among other things showing Rees exposing her breasts and passionately kissing other women.
Click here to see some of the photos (Viewer discretion is advised)
The Web site Canada.com posted the pics, and reports that pageant officials are investigating Rees's behavior. The 22-year-old was crowned Miss Nevada in Las Vegas last October, and will represent the state in the Miss USA pageant next spring.
Yep, I'd say the Donald made the right decision in giving Miss USA Tara Connor another chance, wouldn't you? Apparently the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants are a platform for porn stars. Despicable. They should all be thrown out.
Former Miss Nevada USA Katie Rees asked for a second chance today, after being stripped of her title due to raunchy photos of her that surfaced on the internet.
"This photographs were from an isolated incident during my teenage years," Rees said during a press conference today. "This incident does not reflect who I am, or who I plan to be. I have no intention of further disgracing the state of Nevada, the Miss Universe organization, or Mr. Donald Trump."
Rees said she had contacted Donald Trump, co-owner of the Miss Universe organization, and is awaiting a response.
The former beauty queen also offered some advice to other young girls.
"Please don't let your guard down when it comes to being photographed. As you can see, just one mistake can have a great consequence," she said.
Oh, please! Miss Naked Bi-sexing Nevada giving advice to "other young girls"? How about advising them not to be anything like her? And why is it that these bimbo porn-star wannabes are only disgraced after they've been caught?

Shame on her! Some role model for young ladies!
Danny Bondaduce may be many things, but not a hypocrite.
It all boils down to money. So much for virtue, though...
Great post, Amy!
I may delete this post in the morning. Somehow I feel like I'm giving validation to something icky.
I watched the revolting spectacle of Tara turning on the water-works on TV. Trump made a business decision - the publicity was good for a failing gig. Tara of course is a hardened fake.
She was on the news here last night, all I could think of was crocodile tears...
Nah, don't delete it ... you pointed out the obvious, and I never got to see Danny's spot --something about driving home from work ;) .. he made great points.
you have to wonder if Helen Thomas was the contestant if Trump would be so gracious in giving the 'second chance'
She looks like a porn star waiting to happen.
Last time I remembered Bondaduce was on a radio show in LA. He made me laugh. He is a bright guy.
You know Danny B has made a vital point. I have no idea who any of the Miss America winners are except for Vannessa (something) brain freeze, I can't remember her name. But she was de-crowned for posing for playboy.
So, why not this girl? She did worse? Whatever.
Point is America is losing morality.
Vanessa Williams! The difference, as I understand it, is that Miss America is a cut above Miss USA. Miss America (like Vanessa Williams) has a 24 hr. a day chaperone while Miss USA/Teen USA live in an apartment in NYC, unsupervised with Miss Universe...and apparently they don't take the rules seriously nor are they enforced.
Danny Bonaduce is on a red hot winning streak in my book. He has/had shortcomings, but he's very bright and "gets it". If only all people who go through redemption could turn out intellectually as honest as he.
Also, Rosie O'Donnell (whom I cannot stand) made a point that I heard on the news today, which is "the Donald"s multiple affairs and failed marriages, plus bankrupticies, don't make him an authority on good moral conduct! I agree, but apparently it does make him a champion of the "second chance".
What I think is pathetic is that these girls all look like porn stars. There is something very wrong with this picture.
Don't you dare delete this post! I love Bonaduce lately - he voted for Bush too!
At first I thought this was just the underage drinking thing... but, it has been brought to my attention that Ms. Conner is well known for drug use & partying here in Russell County prior to earning her crown. The bi-sexual thing really threw me but, according to her peers there is no surprise there. She is what she has shown herself to be. I think both this County and State of Kentucky should be asking for her crown.
Go Danny... he may be totally f***ed up in many regards, but I like his style this time :-)
Btw, Amy, you've been Christmas tagged -- for more info see: http://rodeoofthemind.com/2006/12/22/christmas-meme/
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
6pence
I saw that video on Fox. I agree totally with Danny's take on it, and yours too. "Gag me with a spoon!" But so perfect!
The beauty pageants have turned into nothing more than a bad joke. They shouldn't just through her out, they should shut down the pageants completely. Like Danny, I have never watched them and have a hard time understanding why anyone does, other than lecherous men wanting to see them parade around in next-to-nothing.
Blessings Amy, and Merry Christmas! :)
Of course nine out of ten Americans have had sex before marriage; the only adults who do not have sex are those who can not find someone to have sex with!
Michael, good point!
I have to say I find that stat more depressing than the Miss Teen/USA story. I hear the figure is probably high. I cannot be the only 1 American who hasn't had sex before marriage. I just don't get it. Are human beings really that incapable of managing their own passions?
Amy, I am embarrassed to admit this, but in 1990, I was courted and almost went to the Miss Colorado Teen Pageant, the winner of course heading to the Miss Teen USA Pageant...I can't tell you how disgusted I was, even then, of the sheer shallowness, materialism and phony persona's of the other contestants. I couldn't, in good conscience, continue on and with my dad's blessing, dropped out. Also, I was in incredible physical shape - 5'4, 115 pounds, and worked out three hours a day. I was told I needed to lose another 15 pounds - the pressure and competition was enormous and there was no grounding. Since then, I have had little respect for pageants and wouldn't look up to the contestants as 'role models.' The 'real world' is something most have no clue about...
Sarah DiMuro is a 30-year-old virgin who is doing something to fix it.
Donna, wow, I didn't know that about you! I think it is Trump who slutified the pageants, though. They used to be fine, if, as you pointed out, you could handle eating nothing.
Greta, yes ma'am!
6pence, I'll check it out.
Katdansi, I agree.
Michael, interesting. I haven't seen the movie "The Holiday" but love Kate Winslet. Sarah is an interesting girl....
I think Tara being removed was great. I also think Williams being de-crowned was the right choice. Trump playing the "trump card," may be a wise choice financially, but it's just plain wrong. She needs to go back to her "clubbing buddies," and leave representing our country to a gal that has some morals. These contests are supposed to be about the all-American lady that can represent our nation. It's more than a bikini contest.
Danny has had his low times (and still does), but his heart is in the right place. His response to that recent idiot in regards to the President was priceless (rude and vulgar, but priceless).
I have long held that so-called beauty pagents should be done away with. They are judged in part (supposedly) for how they look in a swim suit that is going nowhere near any swimming pool/lake/body of water. They all read from the same script, "I want to be the best [insert respectable sounding profession here] that I can be. At the same time I want to aid in the struggle to end [insert the current politically incorrect bugaboo] and work to [insert lofty sounding popular cause]"
It's bad enough that these "adults" are involved, the bigger travesty are the children groomed to believe these contests are something to be strived for. Sorry if this is not making sense, I shouldn't be doing this at 4:30 before going to work for the benefit of the 2 people in columbia who go shopping at 6 in the morning.
Miss America was long considered the best pageant and the one with the best reputation. Losers of that pageant went on to 'try' their hand at Miss USA. The scholarship idea is great - the rest is just fluff and I think contestants in the Miss America pageant are far more grounded, goal oriented as opposed to celebrity oriented, etc.
archaic sensibilities have no place in a modern democracy. "prudence" and "chastity" are nothing more than devices meant to oppress women. sexual freedom is the ultimate freedom. stigma is unamerican.
miss usa is product, and trump owns the company. you don't like it, you don't buy it. god bless capitalism.

"She looks like a porn star waiting to happen."
you and i have the same dirty mind!
KEvron
Thanks Amy! I could not for the world think of Vanessa Williams' last name! lol!
In my opinion, I think pageants should be abolished. I have never seen anything positive come out of any pageant.
It is demeaning to women everywhere and I believe a bad example for young girls to follow. You don't have to beautiful to have a successful life.
It is rather ironic to see that the same people who complain about America's "moral fabric" are the ones following these types of mundane and useless stories.
"mundane and useless stories."
this story is about the politics of sex; that some people would continue to subscribe to victorian values wrt women's sexuality is an important discussion.
"women are the niggers of the world." - j. lennon
KEvron
Leticia, agreed. I also think the message should be that you can be beautiful without being slutty. A girl doesn't have to look like a porn star to be happy and loved. Or to have fun.
Mavic, I think this story is totally relevant to the discussion about morality. The sexualization of women, which we do to ourselves, has far reaching implications. It degrades men as well as women, it adds to the sexual permissiveness in society, which leads to issues like pregnancy, abortion and birth control.... I don't think that's mundane or useless.
It might interest you to know that after I posted this story I was going to delete it... then I noticed a spike in traffic. I ended up getting almost 9,000 visitors daily since this posting. And quess why? There are a lot of men looking for nude pictures of Miss Nevada. If one man can come here and read a woman's commentary showing that this is NOT acceptable, I think I've done my job.
KEvron, I don't have a dirty mind, but thanks anyway. Subscribing to Victorian values? Is that a self-serving statement or what? There is nothing dignified or valuable about what any of these women promote or who they seem to be in their private lives. All it does is make for a more dangerous world for my daughters. There's a reason why child porn, pediphilia, rape and sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise since the height of the sexual revolution and abortion on demand.
"Is that a self-serving statement or what?"
hardly, as these anachronistic sensibilities seldom apply to us men. the double standards of chastity and prudence seem reserved for women only.
"There is nothing dignified or valuable about what any of these women promote"
self-determination and self-expression are both valuable and dignified causes.
"or who they seem to be in their private lives."
should it differ from their "public" lives? should any private citizen's life be subject to public scrutiny?
"All it does is make for a more dangerous world for my daughters."
i supect a specious argument accompanies that dubious (and rather self-serving) assertion.
"There's a reason why child porn, pediphilia, rape and sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise since the height of the sexual revolution and abortion on demand."
citations, please. i'm not convinced that any of these conditions have been "on the rise". further, you'd be hard pressed to convince me of any connection between these conditions and legalized abortion or enlightened sexual attitudes. your own "say so" will not suffice.
free your mind, and dat ass will follow....
KEvron
"rchaic sensibilities have no place in a modern democracy. "prudence" and "chastity" are nothing more than devices meant to oppress women."
Do you have a daughter? Mind if I get her drunk and share her with all my buddies? As long as she says yes...
"citations, please. i'm not convinced that any of these conditions have been "on the rise".
Doesn't matter. Your statement was that sexual freedom is the ultimate freedom. You would do well working for NAMBLA.
I'm trying to make sense of your comments. You said:
"hardly, as these anachronistic sensibilities seldom apply to us men. the double standards of chastity and prudence seem reserved for women only."
Are you suggesting women should be freed from the moral value of chastity? We should all be equally scuzzy? There's a plan.
I will be happy to give you citations. I've done numerous studies on this in the past and will happily provide you with links.
Back in a while.
"Do you have a daughter?"
not that i know of.
"Mind if I get her drunk and share her with all my buddies? As long as she says yes..."
if i had a daughter, and she were to acquiesce to your advances, then that would be her business, not mine. but, as i've said, i have no daughter, so you and your buddies will have to make do with your own daughters.
"Doesn't matter."
does matter, if one hopes to convince. otherwise, i must assume "on the rise" was drawn from the keester file.
"Your statement was that sexual freedom is the ultimate freedom."
yes, it was. that statement was countered with "on the rise". i'm glad we worked that out.
"You would do well working for NAMBLA."
how so? what has the psychological disorder of pedophilia have to do with a woman's right to self-determination and self-expression, or with sexual freedom? you're not going to next evoke marriage between men and goats, are you? i'm hoping to keep this conversation at a slightly more sophisticated level.
besides, i think nambla may well be a charade.
KEvron
"I'm trying to make sense of your comments."
good luck with that. they seem rather direct and obvious to me, so i'm not sure where your difficulty lies.
"Are you suggesting women should be freed from the moral value of chastity?"
i see nothing moral in oppression.
"We should all be equally scuzzy?"
i would not impose a level of scuzziness upon you. you may choose whatever level of scuzziness to which you are accustomed. i'm sure you know what kind of scuzziness works for you.
"There's a plan."
i'm not sure how you've deduced a "plan" from anything i've said thus far.
"I will be happy to give you citations. I've done numerous studies on this in the past and will happily provide you with links."
cool.
"Back in a while."
i'm not going anywhere.
KEvron
btw, amy, you've got your work cut out for you. first, you'll have to establish a date or event that would herald the advent of our so-called sexual revolution. then you must date and quantify it's "height" ("....height of the sexual revolution"). next, you'll have to prove that instances of child porn, pedophilia, rape and std's have "been on the rise" since that "height" (i'm rather willing to concede in the case of child pornography, but would link it's increase not to modern sexual attitudes, but to the relatively recent advent of, and advances in, video technology). however, simply satisfying those two conditions will not be enough to prove your corollary. there is where your real work lies.
good luck, kid.
KEvron
KEvron, I the "sexual revolution" and abortion go hand in hand. From them flows a host of ills.
Incidentally, I'll provide the data my way, thanks.
"I the "sexual revolution" and abortion go hand in hand."
i certainly agree that abortion rights are a cornerstone of a woman's freedom, sexual or otherwise.
"From them flows a host of ills."
so you've said, but failed to convince.
perhaps those links we discussed....
KEvron
ps, it's the holiday season, and i have other obligations, so i may not be able to maintain timely responses. you understand, i'm sure.
"Incidentally, I'll provide the data my way, thanks."
i can hardly wait. it's certain to be very compelling.
KEvron
Ahhhh, there's the rub KEvron, you believe that abortion is all about a WOMAN's freedom. I suppose the father of the child, and the child, have no say in the matter right? Obviously the child has no say if the mother is free to dump it. Brilliant reasoning on your part.
"Ahhhh, there's the rub KEvron"
no rub whatsoever. couldn't be any smoother.
"you believe that abortion is all about a WOMAN's freedom."
and i'm not alone in that belief, though i doubt too many mullahs share it.
"I suppose the father of the child and the child, have no say in the matter right?"
yes, that is what you suppose.
"Obviously the child has no say if the mother is free to dump it."
obviously.
"Brilliant reasoning on your part."
thanks, but i can't take credit for it because the reasoning was entirely your own.
KEvron
While your sarcasm is not lost on me, it does nothing to further your opinion, which goes against what most do believe. Call it "reproductive rights," or whatever you'd like, it still is the result of killing unborn children. I would guess that you are another that is not "pro abortion," but merely "pro choice?" Put as much lipstick on that pig as you want, it still stinks.
