Ding Dong, the Wicked Witch is Dead

CENTCOM reports Multi-National Force-Iraq Commanding General, GEN George W. Casey, Jr, made the announcement:“Ladies and Gentlemen, Coalition forces killed al-Qaida terrorist leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi and one of his key lieutenants, spiritual advisor Sheik Abd-Al-Rahman, yesterday, June 7, at 6:15 p.m. in an air strike against an identified, isolated safe house.
Al-Zarqawi and al-Qaida in Iraq have conducted terrorist activities against the Iraqi people for years in attempts to undermine the Iraqi national government and Coalition efforts to rebuild and stabilize Iraq . He is known to be responsible for the deaths of thousands of Iraqis. Al-Zarqawi’s death is a significant blow to al-Qaida and another step toward defeating terrorism in Iraq.
“I think arguably over the last several years, no single person on this planet has had the blood of more innocent men, women and children on his hands than Zarqawi. He personified the dark, sadistic and medieval vision of the future of beheadings, suicide bombings and indiscriminant killings.”
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki says:
“Today, al-Zarqawi was eliminated. Those who disrupt the course of life, like al-Zarqawi, will have a tragic end.
“Whenever there is a new al-Zarqawi, we will kill him.
“This is a message for all those who embrace violence, killing and destruction to stop and to [retreat] before it’s too late. It is an open battle with all those who incite sectarianism.”
This could not have happened without the intellegence and tips of Iraqi citizens, who tipped off Al-Zarqawi’s location to US and Iraqi Forces. The US and Iraq jointly pulled off the assault that killed Al-Zarqawi.
Enjoy hell, Al-Zarqawi: (al-Zarqawi doing the beheading in both images)

Liberals/Media Downplay/in Denial over the death of Al-Zarqawi

John Murtha, Dem. Congressman-PA, on CNN’s Live Today: on whether it is “fair to say that this attack and the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi wouldn’t have happened if U.S. troops were not on the ground.”)
“I’m not sure about that. I’m not sure it was a bomb that killed him from the air. So I’m not sure about that. There’s no question we can’t win this militarily. So it’s a matter of time. The Iraqis are getting better. I think the intelligence came from the Iraqis, as I understand it. Now, this is the early reports. And it came to the security forces and the Iraqis and then passed on to the Americans. So this was a key element. Whether they could have done this themselves in this isolated area, I don’t know.”
“I think we cannot win this. It’s a civil war they’re involved in. Al Qaeda’s a small part of this. We’ve diverted ourself away from the real war on terrorism to the war in Iraq, and this is the problem we face. We have Sunnis fighting Shias, and the Americans are caught in between.”
“I’m convinced that it’s time now for us to start a real effort by the president, by the administration, to meet with the Iraqis and tell them, look, you folks have the capability. It’s your government. If you really believe in democracy, you’re going to have to take over this effort yourself, and we’ll be able to redeploy our troops.”
Pete Stark, Congressman D-California: “This is just to cover Bush’s [rear] so he doesn’t have to answer for Iraqi civilians being killed by the U.S. military and his own sagging poll numbers. Iraq is still a mess — get out.”
CNN: “AL-ZARQAWI ‘BETRAYED’ Betrayed terrorist died in ‘safe house’ Terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was betrayed from inside the al Qaeda in Iraq group he led in the insurgency fight against coalition troops, the U.S. military says.”
CNN: “Al-Zarqawi’s death is good news, but Iraq’s problems will persist”
CNN, Anderson Cooper’s 360 blog; “Bin Laden might find relief in al-Zarqawi’s death”
Kofi Annan, United Nations Secretary-General: “I think they will all be relieved that he is gone. And of course, we cannot pretend that that will mean the end of the violence. But it is a relief that such a heinous and dangerous man who has caused so much harm to the Iraqis is no longer around to continue his work.”
Michael Berg, Nick Berg’s father: “I think the news of the loss of any human being is a tragedy. I think al-Zarqawi’s death is a double tragedy. His death will incite a new wave of revenge. George Bush and al-Zarqawi are two men who believe in revenge.”

Between this and the foiled plot in Canada (not to mention the numerous foiled plots in America), how can one say the War on Terror isn't being won?
In terms of national security, I think this is the best overall scenario we could've asked for. Al-Zarqawi was too dangerous to be kept alive.
Great news no matter how you look at it!!!!!!
AubreyJ.........
(Now if Blogger will just start working again today so I can post on this great news some more!!!)
That's got to be the best part for us and the worst part for him. He could die, literally, any moment. No troops storming in, no action movie spectacles, just the push of a button, the firing of a rocket and a big explosion.
It could happen anytime.
Psychological warfare.
On the other hand, I think there could be a lot of value in taking bin Laden alive. He's no less dangerous than al-Zarqawi was, but you'd think a live capture would greatly demoralize the terrorists.
US ARMY ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(On a personal note...Amy, hope you and your family are doing well!)
"Zarqawi wants to repent. His 72 virgins turned out to be transvestites."
Actually, I'm not sure that's true. This is from Roy Schoeman, a Jewish convert to Catholicism who wrote "Salvation is from the Jews":

Consider the differences between the depiction of heaven in Islam versus that in Judaism and Christianity. Heaven, by definition, entails the greatest state of perfection that God can give man; it represents the ultimate meaning and goal of man’s existence. In both Judaism and Christianity, the bliss of heaven comes from the pure joy of being in God’s presence; in Islam, it comes from base sensual pleasures—food, drink and sex. Men in heaven are rewarded with 72 beautiful, ever-young virgin "wives", which the Koran describes as "bashful and dark-eyed" (Koran 37:48), "as fair as corals and rubies" (55:58), "loving companions" (56:37), and "high-bosomed virgins" (78:33). They also receive 28 "beardless young boys described as "boys of perpetual freshness; if thou seest them, thou wouldst think them as scattered pearls, dressed in silk and brocade, and embellished with bracelets of silver." (76:10-25)

Hmmmm, apparently Allah has promised Zarqawi "28 beardless young boys described as 'boys of perpetual freshness; if thou seest them, thou wouldst think them as scattered pearls, dressed in silk and brocade, and embellished with bracelets of silver.' (76:10-25)"
I guess Zarqawi doesn't need to repent after all.
I saw a news conference this morning in which the media were questioning a commanding general about the Zarqawi death and the questions seemed to be hopeful that the US soldier did something "Haditha"y. "Did US soldiers shoot Al-Zarqawi after they found him in the rubble?" and "Did the US send medics to attempt to save his life?" Etc. GEESH! No answer short of "Yes, MSM, US troops located the dying Al-Zarqawi freedom fighter and shot him in the head Haditha style. No, we offered no medical support and let him die slowly." BS! The US medics tried to save his life and address his wounds.
I believe this war has moved out of the military phase and into the spiritual one. That is, I get the firm inclination that there are definitely 2 wars:
1)Militarily fought: we cannot lose militarily. We are winning/have won militarily. We're in no danger of not winning (unless some pansy liberal wins in '08 and pulls the presence from Iraq). I don't see that happening.
2) Spiritually fouoght: there are truly spirits and principalities behind the slimy words used by a John Murtha and a Cindy Sheehan, CNN, MSNBC and the other news agencies hell bent on failure in Iraq. Consciously it makes no sense that anyone would promote failure in Iraq and the arguments are idiotic. Clearly there is a spiritual force at work to have this effort fail so more innocent lives will be lost (look at the Vietnam withdrawal) and countries made more vulnerable to Islamic extremists (look at how libs compromise our safety with opposition to the war on terror, the NSA, the Patriot Act...)
My children and I prayed Wed. night for the failure and thwarting of terrorism in Iraq and that evil people would be eliminated so the good people of Iraq can find true religious freedom and enjoy a good life. We're very happy to see Al-Zarqawi dead. ALLAH BE PRAISED.
"I’m not sure about that. I’m not sure it was a bomb that killed him from the air. So I’m not sure about that. There’s no question we can’t win this militarily."
So let me get this straight, Congressman: You doubt the SUCCESSES of our troops but are sure of ALLEGED FAILURES of our troops (Haditha)? What a patriot!
The military released doggone video of the Air Force bombing the safehouse but Murtha DOUBTS that the US did it? Maybe it was Iraqis... yes, maybe not on their own.. unsure... yes.... but killing Zarqawi is a good thing... yes.. so the US COULDN'T be responsible....
