Pelosi Defends Hurting U.S. Reputation Among Allies

Democrats insist restoring America’s reputation in the world, which they say has been damaged by George W. Bush, is priority one, but perhaps they should work a little harder at making our allies not hate us.

First, in August Barack Obama sent our ally Pakistan into an uproar when he said he’d send troops into the country if they couldn’t capture the terrorists we wanted them to. Pakistan erupted into fiery protests.

Later in August, Hillary Clinton and Carl Levin offended Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and those who voted for him by calling for his removal from office.

Then in September, the (Democrat Joe) Biden amendment  "to express the sense of Congress on federalism in Iraq" passed in the Senate and outraged Iraqis who insist their country remain one unified countryIraqis took to the streets of Baghdad to protest the Biden Amendment.

Now in a stupid and reckless move approved by Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Congress came up with a resolution condemning the Armenian genocide of 1915. That’s right; 1915.  Turkey, now a NATO member and a key U.S. ally in the war on terror, accepts Armenians were killed but call it a massacre during a chaotic time, not an organized campaign of genocide. There are now angry protests in the streets of Turkey angry over pending H. Res 106: Affirmation of the United States Record on the Armenian Genocide Resolution At a time when we rely on Turkey for air fields and landspace, this resolution would be very destabilizing to our efforts in the Middle East and could hurt resupply efforts to our troops in Iraq.

President Bush, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are all urging Congress not to vote on the resolution. Some key Democrats are also calling on Pelosi to prevent the vote on the resolution.

In the meantime:

Turkey recalls ambassador over genocide resolution
Turkish general warns of 'irreversible damage if U.S. Congress passes genocide resolution

Turkish-U.S. Business Council cancels conference
Turkish minister cancels trip to US over genocide resolution

Despite the damage this will likely cause, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi went on ABC's This Week and defended the resolution. She is completely reckless and irresponsible.

With domestic enemies like these…..

She made such a big deal that she had not heard from the president on the topic. Does she think anyone believes she would have listened to his opinion?

Dems….up with a resolution condemning…. Place whatever idiocy here.!
This is our tax money, our insensitive foreign policy. And Al Gore won a prestigious award for a weather report. In the last days you will see great “wonders.” Or was that blunders?

It's a great thing to tell the truth; it's a greater thing to know when to tell the truth.

Amy, shhhh, this is to easy for us all to agee on ;-)

Roger W., here, here! It is an issue that can be addressed at another time, or thru other ways...

How do you say, More Nuanced???? President Bush should hit them over the head about being more "Diplomatic" and "Nuanced" ha!

the resolution itself makes no sense, especially at this time. my opinion, the only thing that makes any sense out of it is that it is a end around ploy in an attempt to force the president to withdraw the troops from Iraq by alienating our allies against us.

Also, while I'm here. Yesterday I shouldn't have referred to Johnny's "alleged" expertise. That was unfair. His expertise is most certainly real. Sorry.
You're going to have to develop a special column for Johnny and me to argue in, Amy. LOL

Respectfully,
Roger G.

The time is right for Nany Pelosi to be hauled up on charges of treason, indicted, tried, convicted, and banished to Armenia. President Bush can call her there.

Jenny, I totally agree. She and the other Democrats are interferring in our national security in a way that damages the United States and the rest of the world. I cannot conceive what these people are thinking and how they can justify being so dangerous. What is wrong with these people??

Roger, no worries. People have to take our word for it, although we do use our real names and location. There's very little that you can trust on the internet so I'm not offended.

Wonder how the trolls are going to defend this.

Probably won't and will engage, instead, in a bunch of name calling or JohnnyC's interminable 27% litany. I suppose if he says it enough he might even begin to believe it himself.

Brilliant Nancy, alienate a key ally, being from San Fran I guess she really is that stupid. I saw that clip over at Hot Air and couldn't watch all of it, she is so far invested in defeat that now she will sabatage a key ally. I donot think she has the votes to pass it though according to what I have seen in GOP circles.

You left out the little spat in February that Obama and Murtha had with John Howard when they insulted the Aussie commitment in Iraq because they hadn't 'matched our troop levels'. What a bunch of hacks.
