Anti-War Nuts Vandalize Memorial on Veterans Day

Anonymous anti-war nuts decimated flags on Veterans Day in Kansas City, Missouri at a display designed to oppose the war in Iraq while honoring the fallen.  The display began over the summer when Ann and Don Bender, who oppose the war, decided to erect a flag for every soldier fallen in Iraq.  After some Vietnam veterans helped set up the flags in honor of Veterans Day, anti-war vandals struck, scattering the flags on the ground and posting a sign that read "MURDERERS".

We probably disagree with the war, but anyway all differences aside, this is totally wrong. I ahve no objections to people protesting the war and feel it is thier right, but no one has the right to destroy public property

Disgusting behavior, to say the least. I've added a link here on my posting at our site so that people can see the video. Outstanding work, Amy.

sick bastards

PA Indy, my belief about people opposing the war but supporting the troops has grown in the past couple years. I used to believe the two were incompatible, although I believe most who oppose the war are not considering the troops or putting their best interests first.

I know a woman here at Fort Leavenworth who lost a son in Iraq. I wrote an entry about it. As God would will it, we met, had an intense and emotional conversation (she opposes the war, I support it) and at the end of the day I know this woman to be of exceptional character and she completely supports the troops. She even counters the ugly protesters who protest outside of post when there's a military funeral.

She is opposed to the war but also a patriot.

These people who did this to the display are not patriotic and are barely Americans. They certainly haven't earned the right to be called Americans.

Sickos.

Remember - we cannot question the patriotism of whoever did this. The MSM says so.

Penn. Independent, I'm not so sure that's public property. Granted it's outside the fence surrounding the home but look where it's placed inside the easement.

I'm sure those flags cost quite a bit over time. Charges of criminal tresspass and destruction of private property might make them think about exercising "their right to free speech" on someone's dime the next time.

I think this would be disgusting even if there were state flags that were knocked over. It would be disgusting if they were confederate flags knocked over. It would be disgusting if anyone wontonly destroyed private property. I will go so far as to understand the destruction of private property as a crime, and hope that they catch who is responsible. I am not sure that assigning special value to the little plastic nationalist symbol makes this any worse. I fully appreciate the alternative position and am sorry of any of the pain that this act of aggression caused the loved ones of the victims of this war.

This is heartbreaking -- how could anyone do such a horrible thing. My heart weeps with the beautiful veteran who put up the flags...God bless you Sir.

I hope they catch these thugs and put them in prison for a while, maybe then they'll appreciate the freedom our brave men and women died to achieve.

This was wrong! Regardless how anyone feels about the war, we should never, ever, forget the sacrifice of our troops! They need our support.

Call me a "softie" but this post made me cry. I don't understand how anyone could be so cruel and wicked. Not to our troops.

That's dispicable! How dare they!

This fits the experience I have with anti-war protesters. For two years an Army wife friend of mine and some others counter protested anti-war hippies outside our military base. They never had a flag and there was never anything remotely patriotic about them. One guy did wear an Islamic prayer rug...solidarity with the terrorists, I guess.

It wasn't until they saw how much positive attention we received and how much more patriotic we looked because we brought flags that they occassionally brought some as well. It didn't last. These people hate the flag and patriotism and prefer an upside down flag to a rightside up one any day.

The flags are private property and they are also a form of political speech which is protected by the First Amendment.

How is it that antiwar loons say BUSH IS HITLER, but always seem to behave more like brownshirt fascists themselves?

Thanks for posting this Amy. The people who desecrated this memorial ARE UNAMERICAN!

Amy:
Thanks for posting this. I live in KC and somehow I didn't see this. I read the KC Star but I don't watch the local news much.

I will be posting this also and linking to you. Thanks!!

I think this unfortunate. I live pretty close to the Benders, and I found it moving that they wanted to make a statement ... that regardless of whether you are "for" or "against" the war, thousands of people have given their lives.

The Benders have a new sign up ... "Imagine Peace."
