I sort of wish the SGTs could have been blunter and clearer about the successes. They probably don't realize just how deep the MSM-fostered ignorance about OIF in the American public really is. Some plain talk, repeated confidently, is about the only thing that can pierce the foggification.
It's funny how the guys who support the war effort are much more tactful in their expression of the progress whereas the handful of soldiers who openly criticize it do so bluntly.
I think part of the reason it is done this way is to make it less political and emotional. If GEN Petraeus were more "blunt", he would be a polarizing figure and he wants to avoid that to ensure greater success of the mission with less interference from politicians.
