U.S.-Iraqi Troops and Locals Stop Huge Terror Attack

With the help of local anti-al-Qaeda awakening fighters, U.S. and Iraqi forces found and disarmed 20 car bombs in a garage in the Adhamiyah district in northeastern Baghdad. These car bombs were ready to be used. This joint find prevented potentially hundreds of casualties.

This is yet another example of how Iraqi and U.S. troops are working with Iraqi citizens to whip al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Amy -
Be REAALLL cautious about RadioSAWA reports; I know Omar has faith in them, but, e.g., it reported a massacre in Hawr Rajab on Sept 11/07 that never happened, and there is NO corroboration for this VBIED story that I can find. MNF-I, e.g., has no info on it, and you'd think they would.

I suspect SAWA of having a very imaginative news editor.

I couldn't find corroboration, either, except for the video news report. I believe it's accurate but inquired with MNF-I and am awaiting confirmation or denial.

I doubt this will be on the local news.

Soccer players seek asylum? People claimed during the USSR's reign that it was a great place to live, but this was proven false by all of the defections. Why would soccer players, who should have it so good, want to leave?

Nor, this is a war, not paradise. Things are steadily improving but as people are leaving, many are returning.

Why are these soccer players seeking asylum? Why not? They have a price on their heads from al-Qaeda becasue of their fame via their soccer win of a few months ago. It's that simple.

So your point is???

November 19, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAmy Proctor

Any proof of that claim? Or is that not necessary, because it must be a function of something good to correspond to the story that Iraq is so much better now?

I take your assertion. I simply am curious why you feel the need to be panglossian rather than rationally critical.

November 19, 2007 | Unregistered Commenternor luap

Any proof of what claim? I've posted on thousands of Iraqis returning home, Christians returning home from Syria and Lebanon as well as documented how things are improving in Iraq.

Your claim:

"They have a price on their heads from al-Qaeda becasue of their fame via their soccer win of a few months ago."

Your evidence:

"I've posted on thousands of Iraqis returning home, Christians returning home from Syria and Lebanon as well as documented how things are improving in Iraq."

They don't match.

Would you like to reconcile them? If Al Qaeda is so strong, things are not getting better. If they are not, you don't have much of an explanation about why famous people would need to seek asylum.

November 19, 2007 | Unregistered Commenternor luap

Good news if it holds up but it fits the growing pattern as citizens step forward with tips. More and more good news continues to pour out of Iraq, as slow as molasses on a winter day but just as sweet.
Heck those soccer players are just looking for some big contracts from private clubs abroad, that is soccer.

November 19, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterGoat

Goat, that seems reasonable and would help to alleviate the tension created by the conflicting explanations.

Maybe the case for the strength of Al Qaeda is overstated?

Amy, would you like to retract your explanation?
