U.S. Public Sees Sharp Improvement in Iraq
Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 04:25PM Pew Research Poll reports U.S. public opinion on military progress in Iraq has improved “sharply” since the start of the surge in February.
Military effort is going very/fairly well:
FEB 2007: 30%
NOV 2007: 48%
Military is defeating the insurgents:
FEB 2007: 30%
NOV 2007: 43%
Public opinion has improved across party lines:

- Republicans 51% said things were going well in FEB 2007. The percentage is 74% in NOV 2007.
- Democrats expressing a positive view of the Iraq effort has doubled since February (from 16% to 33%).
- Independents went from 26% positive view of Iraq in FEB 2007 to a 41% in NOV 2007.
This doesn't reflect the significance and quantity of the progress in Iraq, but maybe Americans are catching on a little.

Heh-heh ... Americans catching on ... ???
Actually, the fact that Americans are not being inundated with explosions and constant "body count" lamentations, the numbers are rising 'cause they're not hearing all bad news all the time. And, well, honestly, even when there were tragedies happening, we were still winning.
Oh, and with all the fake-isms happening around all these dumbo-the-fake-OH! debates, people are more worried about other inane things. No one cares about the soldier, unless they can feign concern to look like they are "in tune" ...
Hmmm ... bitter ... ??? Naw, just tired of the populace and their lack of ability to get the information on their own ... :)
What? 1/3 of Democrats have a clue? I don't believe it. The End Times must be near.
I will not listen to Murtha's latest comments. He lost his right for my consideration that he has anything intelligent to say about anything. However, I accept the honest democrats that questioned this and themselves.
Fix4RSO, first, it's a pleasure to have you back.
Secondly, I agree we were winning even when all the bad news was coming out. Looking back over the years in Iraq, there's no way to say free elections, a trial and execution of Saddam Hussein, the dispose of his evil heirs, the death of Musab al-Zarqawi and training of Iraqi police and troops were NOT success. They were. They were stepping stones to where we are now but the strategy change is what has made a huge difference. The counterinsurgency strategy is excellent and the icing on the cake. I'm not sure how long we could have sustained operations retreating to the super FOBs rather than living among the population, but that's a non-issue now, thank God.
I know, Brian, I'm not sure where to be skeptical or happy. I would love to see a climate change politically at the base level. Politicians will always grandstand but the voters will be a little more honest.
CalPatriot, I have the video and am posting some excerpts in the morning. My impression is that Murtha has seen and believed. He's still a political rival of the President, but he seems genuinely impressed with the progress. He even credited Iraqis with contributing ot the turn around.
