Sarkozy's Remarkable Remarks to Congress
Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 10:00PM French President Nicolas Sarkozy Wednesday addressed the U.S. Congress in a substantive speech intended to bridge the gap of past friction and express Sarkozy’s enthusiastic feelings toward the U.S. It was a remarkable speech that outlined French-American history, focusing on what unites these two allies rather than what divides. Below are a few highlights:

Thanks for posting this Amy, I had found snippets but not vids of the speech, I like what I have heard of Sarkozy, France needs him and badly.
Stirring.
I thought Pelosi was gonna come out of her pants suit she jumped up so quick to shake Sarko's hand.
Great to see a French President being invited to address the congress!
It is pleasing to see the rekindling, of one of the great alliances of the past century.
I too thank you for posting this Amy.
Goat, not only does France need Sarkozy, but they want Sarkozy. In the context of the "Bush has made the world hate us" mentality, Sarkozy is a great example of how wrong that argument is.
Sarkozy's ideals and grasp of this time we live in surrounded by historical context is fantastic. His speech was in parts breath-taking. And I agree, American Interests, that it is great to see this old alliance rekindled.
Rarely are friendships strengthened through pessimism and criticism, but they are always strengthened through encouragement, free expression of affection, kind correction, encouragement and reaffirmation of solidarity. Sarkozy strengthens France's frienship with America, and equally as impressive America's friendship with France, with his open dialogue.
I.e., I really like the man.

That's a White House photo from my June 11, 2007 post wrapping Bush's European tour and th G8 Summit.
Go right down the row, every leader with the exception of Putin has been elected or re-elected in the years since we invaded Iraq and is more pro-America and pro-Bush than his predecessors.
France was the last major holdout against a tide of pro-American leadership sweeping the major democracies (and even the small democracies).
It really must gall the lefties who WANT to believe everyone hates us.
Mike, Great point! Great comment. The world makeup has been changing toward a more pro-U.S.outlook and it seems obvious that Bush isn't the reason for whatever poor opinion is out there any more than he was the reason for the recession he inherited from Clinton.
The worst part about his presentation was the fact that he was flanked by America's two senior village idiots.
Sorry to be negative on a very good post, but I am sick to death of seeing or hearing those two and their ilk.
Gawfer, !!!! I know what you mean. They clapped along like they love America, too!
My hope is that old dogs can learn new tricks and Pelosi/Byrd learned something about respecting and loving America from this *eh hem* French President.
