Story of Valiant Soldier Missed by Media

Bottom Line Up Front:  A soldier serving in Iraq injured by an IED re-enlisted for 3 more years of service from his hospital bed, but main stream media outlets continue ot focus on bogus stories painting soldiers in a negative light.

If the main stream media were reporting this story, it would go something like this:

Staff Sergeant (SSG) Andrew McMann re-enlisted today in a hospital in Balad, Iraq, after sustaining head trauma when his Hum-V hit an IED. Morale among the troops is at an all time low, and despite statements from SSG McMann to the contrary, it is presumed that the traumatic experience of surviving an IED attack has confused this young, uneducated and vulnerable soldier.

After extensive interviews, although he would not admit to it, it is believed that SSG had no alternative as a young minority male but to reenlist with the Army or face a future in the ghettos of America. Mrs. McMann declined to confirm our suspicions.

McMann.jpgIn actuality, SSG McMann wanted to re-enlist and serve his country. Just 48 hours earlier, he survived an IED explosion with just a broken foot, and every soldier in the attack survived. McMann credited God with saving their lives.

McMann oringinally enlisted after 9/11 saying,

“As soon as those attacks happened, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. I wanted to serve.”

“The Army’s been good to me. It’s given me a chance to be (part of) something bigger than myself.”

Even his wife was supportive of his enlistment, despite the obvious risks. McMann was determined to reenlist anyway, but referring to his recovery from his injury he said, “This break in the hospital is the first time I’ve had to sign my contract.” Now he’s eager to return to duty.

Of course, the main stream media isn’t reporting this story. It was buried on the Defense website among other stories of valor, courage and patriotism. However, the New York Times did showcase a fraudulent piece about a Ms. Randall, a female sailor who claimed to have served in Iraq and was raped several times by her fellow sailors. Let’s just say she never did serve in Iraq, although the Times says “Ms. Randall did not serve in Iraq, but may have become convinced she did”, nor was she raped. A retraction followed a week later in small print in the correction area. Their bad.

The main stream media cannot have its way with this one. SSG McMann volunteered, was injured and hospitalized in Iraq, and reenlisted on his hospital bed for 3 more years of service. The leftists of the world will always be puzzled by this sort of man, this sort of valor and this kind of determined bravery, which puts the soldier willingly in the line of fire. There is an explanation for this kind of man….LTC Randolph White said last August at graduation speech at the Infantry Graduation at Ft. Benning, GA, “There are two kinds of men who walk the earth: there are men of action, and all others.”

SSG Andrew McMann is a man of action. Then there’s everyone else.  HOOAH.

A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention.

I remember Ft. Benning well and I like LTC White's style.

LTC White is straightforward, that's for sure! He says what a lot of people in the military think. He wrote to me after I posted the entry on him back in August and thanked me for posting the video. So it's my pleasure to post it again.

It's unnerving to liberals that soldiers in Walter Reed or in theater who are injured in war want to return. Being a soldier, and especially being a good one, includes having a driving desire to serve others.. other countries, other soldiers, and your own country.

I do not know why anyone pays attention to the NYTs? They been caught recently making up stories, the owner has bemoaned the paper is loosing serious business and may shut down in about three years ( I guess reporting real news is a factor to financial success), and most of all it is run by a bunch of radical lefties.

^^^ If I thought it would do any good I'd give him the attention for which he's so desperately begging. Unfortunately, I'm afraid his needs are beyond my area of expertise.

HOOAH to you too, Amy! :)

It's sad, but your analysis of how the MSM would write the story of that brave soldier is absolutely true. Besides his story and the video, the next best thing I've read on this blog is the NYT's may close down in three years. I only wish it wouldn't take so long!

...NYT's may close down in three years. I only wish it wouldn't take so long!

Maybe it won't. Did they account for inflation in that prediction? If the Dems take over D.C. it's going to go through the roof and it's already rising fast.

LA Times owner has the paper up for bids currently to only billionaires. Same problem, as NTYs, people stopped buying the paper -lost money. And a study showed the reason was not the internet. It was actual people’s opinions. Only hope new ownerships will steer these traditional institutions back to objective reporting.

"Only hope new ownerships will steer these traditional institutions back to objective reporting."

Don't count on it. These papers seem to think they are objective. Of course, they also seem to have the opinion that we're too simple and stupid to be told the whole truth so they tell us only what's "necessary" for our own good.

May, way off topic, but...
