Sen Craig Resigns, Sort of Apologizes

Republican Senator Larry Craig of Idaho offered his resignation this morning saying:
"I apologize for what I have caused. I am deeply sorry. I have little control over what people choose to believe but clearly my name is important to me and my family is so very important also."

He still seems to be sticking to his guns that he was entrapped and didn't say what exactly he was apologizing for.  His wife and children appear to believe him.  These comments at Michelle Malkin's by a commenter echo my sentiments:

And the media feeding frenzy, now helped by our own in the blogosphere, tried and executed someone…

Nice job folks.

And yet, we have a sitting Congressman who is under indictment… for having Cold Cash…

another named Clinton who should be indicted for perjury…

Another named Pelosi, who should be up on charges of graft for sending contracts directly to her husbands firm…

this guy plays footsies with an undercover cop, did nothing illegal (tapping your foot in the john is illegal?) and you have destroyed his carreer and reputation over it.

I truly question the sense of proportion I see in the media, and now on our own right wing blogs.

My sentiments exactly.  There is no evidence whatsoever... so surveillance footage, no marked cash, no other eyewitnesses, no crime.  At least Tom Foley left an e-mail paper trail.   The quickness and fervor with which Sen. Craig has been thrown under the bus with no real evidence is unsettling.  Who are we trying to impress?  DEMOCRATS???  Craig pled guilty to avoid this media circus not necessarily because he committed a crime. It's not a family value to throw our own under the bus.

No evidence...except the stuff he said at interview and what the cop noted.

All I heard him say on the audio was that he didn't solicit the cop. Look, I'm not defending him if he solicited *** in the bathroom. If he did, he should step aside. Period. He'd be unfit for public service. I just haven't heard anything definitive.

I could be totally wrong to defend him, but I think people deserve the benefit of the doubt.
