Bush Enthusiastically Welcomed in Surprise Trip to Iraq

Pres. Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq today, meeting with top Iraqi leaders, leaders in Anbar Province and U.S. military in Anbar. Troops gave Bush thunderous applause...Watch past the brief introduction by the Marine commander. Is that not an unbelievable welcome for the Commander in Chief by his troops????

(transcript)

Gotta love the reaction of the troops.  Most of the troops love President Bush and believe in the mission, particularly those serving in theater.  They get it, they appreciate that the Commander in Chief gets it, and they know they truly are making a positive mark in the world.   HOOAH!

Amy, didn't you just love the part where Bush said troop levels would be determined by conditions on the ground and NOT by politicians nervous from polls in the media and the troops gave him the biggest HOOOOOOOOOWAAAAHHHHH for that statement.

I cheered for those troops, clapping and watched that part like 5 times.

I think that tells us what the troops think about the politicians playing gmes with them for a vote.

I did indeed! I wanted to edit the video and include that as one of the highlights but the whole thing was just too good, from the Marine commander giving that inspirational introduction to the Commander in Chief, talking about the historical participation they've had in Anbar, to the rousing cheering for the Pres and the enthusiasm they have toward him, to the speech itself.

Absolutley most troops in Iraq feel this way, particularly in Anbar where they've seen such incredible success. You know, Bill Clinton said in a speech as he signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 into law that:

Let me be clear on what the U.S. objectives are: The United States wants Iraq to rejoin the family of nations as a freedom-loving and law-abiding member. This is in our interest and that of our allies within the region.

The United States favors an Iraq that offers its people freedom at home. I categorically reject arguments that this is unattainable due to Iraq’s history or its ethnic or sectarian make-up. Iraqis deserve and desire freedom like everyone else. The United States looks forward to a democratically supported regime that would permit us to enter into a dialogue leading to the reintegration of Iraq into normal international life.

He was right and it's happening. Libs don't give Iraqis nearly enough credit. Complicated, yes, destructive history in their past, yes, but they can over come it if we can facilitate the time for them.

It was an encouraging presence. I wonder what AQ thought of evil Bush in the Sandbox? I would have paid to see it. I know its extremely dangerous, but he needs to be in Iraq more. It improves makes him look more like a leader he is!

I posted on it Amy but I still can't figure out trackbacks. Umm, its ooo-Rah, not hoo ha, teasing of course. That was an incredibly important move by Bush to sit down with the Tribal leaders in Anbar along with Maliki. President Bush payed those tribal leaders with respect to sit down and hear their concerns, a very big thing in their culture. The key to Iraq is the tribes, Fred Kagen and David Kilcullen have brilliant essays on the tribal structure of Iraq's culture and we have broken that code so to speak, in a good way now. We had broken it in a bad way and had to win the trust back.We are finally on the right track.
