Lech Walesa Slams U.N., Looks to U.S. for Leadership
Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 09:13PM
Poland ’s former president Lech Walesa and leader of the anti-communist Solidarity movement slammed the U.N. and suggested the world look to the United States to lead the fight against terrorism.
Walesa said yesterday in Israel that the world needs a new organization to lead the fight against international terrorism in the 21st century and deal with the Iranian nuclear threat since the United Nations has proved itself to be woefully ineffective in facing the challenges of the global world:
"No institution has been effective in the fight against terrorism so we need to establish a new body which will deal with all the global issues or ask the U.S. to lead the world in the fight against terrorism."
"We have the United Nations, but that was established at a different time to deal with different problems. We are left with one superpower (the United States), but we don't know what its place should be. New issues such as terrorism have emerged, but we don't know how to fight terrorism because we were never previously confronted with this problem on such a scale.""This superpower (the United States) is a military and economic leader, and although its economy is somewhat in decline at the moment, we should allow this super power to go ahead on the issue of terrorism."
At least some around the world understand that the U.S. is a force for good and not for evil. Some even like us.

Good to see that Lech is still around. He is a great man and people need to listen to him.He was a major peice in the movement that brought about the fall of the USSR
I was suprised to see what a supporter of Israel he is. He feels very unified with the Jewish people, although considering his persecution by Communists in Poland maybe it shouldn't surprise me.
He also wants to have a one world order, which worries me a bit. He of course cannot pull that off by himself, but he desires to unify Europe into a united entity resembling the United States, and then wants the U.S. to join the European Union, creating essentially a one world order.
He is a great guy, though, with 8 kids, tons of grandkids and a wicked sense of humor. Being Polish, I remember well my daddy wearing a Solidarity pin on his label all the time in the 80's.
"We have the United Nations, but that was established at a different time to deal with different problems.[...]" --Walesa.
Correct.
Poland has been a staunch friend of the USA.
