Obama, Huckabee Win in Iowa Caucus

With 97% of the projected votes in, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Mike Huckabee are first place winners in the Iowa caucus.

DEMOCRATS                  REPUBLICANS
Obama: 38%                  Huckabee:  34%
Edwards: 30%                Romney:   25%
   Clinton:  29%                 Thompson:  13%
Richardson:  2%            McCain:  13%

John Edward's 2nd place victory speech had a lot of emphasis on "change".  One can only hope this "change" doesn't resemble the change Democrats brought to the Congress in the midterms 2006.   We've seen how productive that has been.

VIDEO SPEECHES:
    Barack Obama                             Mike Huckabee
John Edwards                             Mitt Romney
Hillary Clinton

I truly fear the mood of the country is Bush-fatigue and the notion for "change". Obama and Edwards represent the exuberance of "youth" and "change"; "charm" and "charisma". And they are media darlings.

I think Republicans stand a better chance against a Hillary nomination than an Obama one.

I know Democrats who don't trust Hillary; and/or see her as "Bush-lite", and not just because Obama labeled her as such. The anti-war base certainly is none-too-happy with her.

^ True. If it were Hillary/Huckabee, my guess is that it'd be an easy GOP win. Obama/Huckabee is something else entirely.

Even so, it's perfectly doable. A month and a half ago, Huckabee was barely on the radar. Now there seems to be little doubt that he'd carry the base and a good portion of the moderates in a national election. He's popular and he's avoided a lot of the slings and arrows that have nailed a lot of his GOP competition. He's a solid choice.

Assuming the "change" that Edwards refers to has any ring of legitimacy to it (which I don't think is a given) then Huckabee represents a non-wacky change. He'd certainly be more solid on specific issues President Bush has overlooked and which matter to conservative constituents.

I've got a pretty good feeling.

Hi Amy!

Americans need to be very, very cautious. Change simply for it's own sake is not always a good thing!

I snagged a picture from the aftermath of the caucus from Wordsmith and posted it on my Fred Thompson Video post. The American Flag is on the floor during the sweep up! How typical is that of the Democrats. If we wind up with a Democrat as president we'll have to suffer through four years of a President who has absolutely no respect for this country! The thought alone is enough to make my stomach do flip-flops. *sigh*

Well... only time will tell, as usual. You know that I'm for Fred, and was very happy to see him come in third, as just about everyone had counted him out.

As always, blessings to you and yours, Amy. :)

Provide a link to the picture you speak of Gayle.

Lazy-boy Thompson 3rd was a dismal 12%.

I was thrilled with Huckabee's win! He is the one I am rooting for.

Hey, Trent! So good to see you around.

The videos are being uploaded and will be linked to ASAP>

I'll check out that pic on your site, Gayle.

Leticia, we're a house divided. I love a lot about Huckabee but am concerned about his comment that the Bush administration's Iraq policy was an "arrogant, bunker mentality" and that he is soft on illegal immigration. If a President doesn't uphold the rule of law, who will? I like Romney but will take Huckabee. He (Huck) gave a great speech and was great on Leno the other night. Sadly, I was only able to record half his Leno appearance due to a technical issue.

Another thing that concerns me about Huckabee is his "change" rhetoric as well. That's Democratic lingo for "get Bush out NOW". He's already disrespected the admin on Iraq, which I felt was completely inappropriate, and now he's doing it this way.

Not true - check out http://fred08.com and see what's going on. He's raised over $100K in less than 24 hours and wants to take your home state by storm. Those of us who support him plan to help him succeed.

Amy, as a S.C. blogger, you'd be a great addition to the team! Take a look at his stand on issues important to conservatives and be sure to check out some of the videos posted there as well.

Kathleen, I'm not in S.C. anymore, but I will say that I do like Thompson but like Romney more. He is probably the most conservative of all the candidates but I'd need to scrutinize him more on the issues. Hopefully upcoming debates will give me the opportunity to do so.

And as for mudkitty and her insult about Thompson, you can't take liberals seriously. That sort of rhetoric comes from dysfuctionalism and hatred...not exactly a good mix for success in politics.
