Recruitment/Retention in Iraq DOWN for al-Qaeda

Well, Nancy Pelosi may not believe Iraq is a "war to win", but al-Qaeda sure does. In fact, an al-Qaeda sector leader called their tactic of killing anyone who opposes them a strategy to "achieve victory at the end."

But al-Qaeda is losing membership in Iraq as an exodus of willing martyrs switches sides to the Iraqi Awakening. Al-Qaeda has money problems, recruitment and retention problems (unlike the all volunteer COALITION FORCE!), and is unable to regain its losses.

This according to a diary found belonging to Abu-Tariq, an al-Qaeda leader in Iraq:

(transcript)

In Daily Diary of al-Qaeda Sector Leader Abu-Tariq

There were almost 600 fighters in our Sector before the Tribes changed course 360 degrees under the influence of the so-called Islamic Army (Deserter of Jihad) and other known believer groups. Many of our fighters quit and some of them joined the deserters…things started getting worse ever since and as a result of that the numbers of fighters (for al-Qaeda) dropped down to 20 or less.

..there are few fighters left who are actually fighting and some were killed and arrested but the majority betrayed us and joined the Awakening.

Battalion of Abu-Haydar al-Ansari: There were 300 fighters in the battalion equipped with good weapons… and since the Emir deserted us the number of fighters dropped down to 16 and then to 2; one of whom was arrested and the second was injured… the rest joined the Awakening groups.

Abu-Tariq also lists 38 "names of people who are still working with al-Qaeda", many of whom are injured, deserted, have so many negative remarks against them or who haven’t been seen in weeks.

The only way to keep al-Qaeda headed in this downward spiral is to keep the Democrats from the White House.

Well, the US and Iraqi people have them confined AQI to the North of Baghdad, we are launching operations against them as we speak. People do not stick with a losing side so this trend should continue. With the winds breaking our way AQI may not exist 6 months from now, that means much less suicide bombings, mosque attacks, market and school attacks, take your pick. We have allready seen this in the dramatic drop in such attacks, and the fact that AQI needs to dupe women with Down Syndrome to be bombers says a great deal about their resources and morality.

I thought Bush said we won the war, and now what we need to win is hearts and minds.

War? If you call invasion and occupation war, than you bet it's a war. And the dead and the maimed and the bereft thank us for it.

You need to keep yourself informed, mudkitty! I know that's why you come here.

Bush never said we "won" the war, nor have his commanders. If you're referring to "Mission Accomplished", he was referring to the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Gulf. It was their sending home speech.

This is an ongoing war and you cannot win it without 1) securing and 2)winning over the population. That's what we're accomplishing now.

Look up military occupation in the dictionary, mudd. That isn't what this is. It doesn't even resemble it. We're assisting the host nation on their terms (Iraq asked the U.S. to remain for another year via the U.N. mandate).

Please don't feign concern for the troops. It's insulting. The way you address me as a military wife and my husband currently in Iraq are proof enough of that.

Amy, when you wrote... 'The only way to keep al-Qaeda headed in this downward spiral is to keep the Democrats from the White House,' well... all I can say to that is, AMEN!

Tell Johnny hello and to stay safe...

4- Battalion of al-Ahwal: Most of its members are scoundrels, Sectarians, non-believers and the worst one of them was [REDACTED] and he was the first one to desert his battalion and ran away to Syria then later on came back from Syria and joined the traitors while the rest of the battalion was gone except for [REDACTED] and his sons, and the military person who was in charge of the battalion his name is [REDACTED] (bad not good) and he still has in his possession 3 BKCs and 2 sniper rifles and he claims that one of those rifles was given back to its original owner [REDACTED] (I will try to take back the rest of the weapons from him soon and I will mention that later.)

Cut & pastable version here.

Aubrey, thanks. I think we're all agreed about who CANNOT take the White House next year. Johnny told me from Iraq that to keep momentum going we have to vote Republican or else.

Thanks for the link, Cannoneer.

Bureaucrats in Iraq -- Wash.Times, By Bill Gertz
February 8, 2008

http://www.washingtontimes.com/article/20080208/NATION04/795782028

sounds cryptic, but may be "U.S. party-mingling to create instability in Iraq to make Bush look bad. I remember this type of topic a long time ago – we must get rid of the bureaucrats and let the Army and Gen(s), take care of the reconstruction of Iraq. If Washington Politicians ( remember Plame, who already made her mind up as to who was the enemy of the world – Bush not Alqaeda) meddle in the Iraqi theater, then stability will never be accomplished. Reminds me of Democrat New Deal ( c. 1930s-1940s) politicians – disrupt the other party—whatever it does to make it look bad so we can win votes and stay in power.

If what you say in your post is true, Amy, if we know that to be a fact, than we must know where they are, so why don't we go get 'em?

Amy, you are a budding propagandist.
