Foreign Fighters Down 50% in Iraq (and other good news)

Bottom Line Up Front:  Dramatic change for the better is taking place in Iraq since the surge last year.  HOOAH!

The flow of foreign militants entering Iraq to fight for al Qaeda has been cut in half, according to GENl David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Iraq,

Al-Qaeda is fleeing Iraq’s cities into the desert and out of the country

Iraq's parliament passed 3 key new laws today:

  • Passed a $48 billion 2008 spending bill
  • Dates for provincial elections set
  • Limited amnesty to Iraqi detainees granted

Interestingly, these three laws were passed as a bundle so the minority Kurds would benefit from the legislation. I.e., this was an example of NATIONAL RECONCILIATION and POLITICAL PROGRESS. (hear that, Nancy Pelosi?)

200 Iraqi women attend the Hawr Rajab Women’s Committee Meeting eager to “help side-by-side with the men to help our city be safe….all of us need to help,” according to female Iraqi lawyer Manar Fahdil Salman.

200 residents in Baghdad attended a Market Fair to plan for their economic future. Six months ago these residents didn’t feel safe enough to attend such an event.

Security and citizens are returning to the city of Arab Jabour with Sunni and Shia working together for one united Iraq.

This will get a glimmer of time in the news, but you know what, its great to see the Iraqi people moving foward, slowly, but foward none the less.
I would add that Iraqi oil production has exceeded pre-war limits. with much of that money being redistributed in payrolls to average people.
I would also point out the amazing rebirth of the enviornment where the swamp arabs live, another story the media has decided to black out.

It's a sign of complete incompetence or complete dishonesty on the side of the Democrats to continue pimping the idea that Iraq is a failure and there has been no progress in the government. It's completely false. The facts I cited here are but a small glimmer of the positive things that go on in Iraq. r

Even the NYT had to report the political progress being made, it seems they are making more progress the Pelosiand Reid's Congress, grin. I posted on this too.

And more good news to report...

The $8.8 billion in missing funds is still unaccounted for...
More than 14,000 missing U.S. weapons have yet to be traced...
The Bush Administration continues to borrow from China, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Mexico more that $500 million a day to continue the occupation of Iraq...
The flow of funds from Iraqi oil sales that were to have paid for the U.S. invasion have yet to start...

I don't know what you're talking about, Amy M, and apparently neither do you, but you're welcomed to provide credible links (MoveOn.Org and Kucinich websites aren't credible) to prove your assertions please do.

Amy Miller,
You left out the United States has seen any terrorist attacks on our soil in 7 years.

February 14, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterrobert verdi

Foreign fighters never made up more than 8% of the insurgency anyway. AQ less than 2%.

Facts are sometimes inconvenient.
