Michelle Obama: "This is the First Time in My Adult Life I'm Really Proud of My Country"

Michelle Obama said this at a political rally for her husband’s candidacy two days ago:

“Hope is making a comeback, it is making a comeback, and…let me tell you something…

“For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”

Narcissism of the left, exhibit A: Michelle Obama. We owe Michelle Obama thanks for being honest enough to expose this sickening weakness of the left. The philosophy that happiness depends upon things going your way down to the strictest ideological nuances and that in reality, you and only you are able to make that happen is exactly what’s wrong with this “hope” campaign.  Their “hope” isn’t really dependent upon the greatness of America proven by her history but rather conditions the Obamas “hope” set to dictate to America.

If hope is real, it surpasses obstacles, emotion and sees the good, or at least its potential, EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately, the faith and hope the Obamas require to “move this country forward” is a false idol full of empty promises that they cannot possibly make good on. In fact, it is deceitful.

No President, no executor, can make your lifestyle better, your pay higher, your quality of life deeper. They cannot deliver the smorgasbord of social services and feel-good perks they offer.. despite the fact that legislators legislate, not Presidents.

Hope doesn’t depend upon an individual or small group of people or a perfect set of circumstances.  Pride of country doesn’t come from that, either.  Pride of country comes from love and the knowledge that no matter what a small handful of deviants do to try to ruin freedom for the rest of us, America always deserves our fidelity.

The arrogance and hate speech that underlies her comments are stunning. This is modern liberalism, live the american dream and then hold it in contempt until everything begins to revolve around you.

By the way,
If this doesn't clarify why John McCain is preferable to any Democrat running for president, I don't know what does. The McCain campaign should send a thank you note to the Obama camp, rhetoric such as this mskes it a lot easier to voter Republican in 08, especialy for conservatives skeptical of McCain.

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterrobert verdi

I'd have to agree about McCain. To say he's an improvement over Obama would be a gross understatement.

February 20, 2008 | Registered CommenterAmy Proctor

I love how you all fall in soviet lock step now regarding John Sydney McCain the Third.

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermudkitty

muddy - the soviets are with Michelle and Barry - but you always have been truth and fact challenged - sad to know that hasn't changed.

Michelle Obama has exposed the spoiled brat left for what they are - people who's idea of country is there own place in it. In a recent interview with Larry King, she was asked what she would do as First Lady - her platform is .... CHANGE - great opportunity for change. I don't know if that means new China or digging up the Rose Garden or eliminating the literacy programs of Laura Bush, but how sad she is.

Sorry - you're all falling in line. At least we republicans are duking it out to the end. Of the primary, that is. At least our primary votes count.

I'll give you this...M.Obama probably just handed over the nomination to Hillary. And when it's Hill vs McPain, you know it's going to be a kissy fest.

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermudkitty

I agree with you, Amy. I have not lost hope in America in spite of what deviants like Bush and Chaney have done to the country.

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJim

I agree with Jim.

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermudkitty

Here's the real quote, Amy:

"What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback and let me tell you something, For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am REALLY (emphasis added) proud of my country."

Remeber the line in the Bible about not bearing false witness?

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJim

Oh, mud's scheme is so cleverly disguised that I almost didn't catch it! McCain is the nominee, of course we support him. Who are you in communist lock step with? I mean, supporting a candidate for President now means that we're in soviet lock step, right?

robert, it was only a matter of time before the Obama royal family stepped in it. They're hard line socialists. How can you love your country when you spend your time how to rob rom those who've earned their living and give to those who have not?

Good, Jim, glad to see you haven't lost HOPE. Someone should tell the Obama's about you.

Feel free to explain how her comments were taken out of context. "FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFETIME I AM REALLY PROUD OF MY COUNTRY."

In the second video I have posted she says: "FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE I AM PROUD OF MY COUNTRY BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE HOPE IS FINALLY MAKING A COMEBACK."

Do tell, Jim, something about bearing false witness?

February 20, 2008 | Registered CommenterAmy Proctor

By the way, where exactly in the Bible is that quote about "bearing false witness?" For you should not judge someone if you are not prepared to be judged by the same ruler.

February 20, 2008 | Registered CommenterAmy Proctor

It wasn't disguised, nor was it clever. It's just the facts.

If I'm not mistaken, the "bearing of false witness" is part of the ten commandments.

Now fall in line behind the candidate John Sydney McCain The Third, who represents the third Bush term.

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermudkitty

Yale education, and she has nothing to be proud of, HUH?

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterdtodeen

mud said:

It wasn't disguised, nor was it clever.

I see we're finally on the same wavelength.

Again, feel free to point out where I witnessed falsely. I'll wait here while you do that.

Okay, I'm behind McCain waiting for a 3rd Bush term! Ye haw! . Unlike Democrats, we get behind our people, we don't throw them under the bus like you guys did with Lieberman.

February 20, 2008 | Registered CommenterAmy Proctor

jim,
she made a very bad gaffe, deal with it.
mud, you give up hope that easily?

February 20, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterrobert verdi

It wasn't a "gaffe," it was a prepared speech that she gave in two separate cities. Ergo, probably representative of her true feelings.

February 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMike

Lieberman threw his party under the bus, not the other way around, you big sillys.

Dave, people have to work for Yale educations, it's not the sole province of rich republicans.

Amy - you bear false witness when you mis-characterize a person's statements. But then you knew that. Why do you pretend not to know as much as you actually do know? Why play dumb?

MO didn't say it was the first time (much less the only time) she was proud of her country. You falsely quoted her, and not only did you do that, you misplaced the context. You got it wrong, coming and going. In a dishonest way, because, like I wrote, I don't think you're as naive as you claim to be.

February 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermudkitty

Amy - would you like to correct the record, and give the ACTUAL quote?

February 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermudkitty

Blather, blather, blather.

What's this one blown out of proportion quote compared to years of actual war, deficits, torture and profiteering?

Congress is all over the NFL and MLB while Rome burns. It is time for a new day, and a new way.

Obama '08. Book it.

February 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergrumpy old fart

Lieberman threw his party under the bus...by daring to think outside the LIBERAL square box? The Democratic party is so intolerant it isn'f funny. At least Republicans try to change things within the party and don't throw people overboard who don't agree with them.

mud, what quote are you talking about? You need to be more specific when you write. What misquote? You can't explain it because I didn't misquote anyone. Talk about bearing false witness.

February 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAmy Proctor

Amy - you're not seriously pretending that we're not talking about the Michelle Obaman/MO quote? Remember? It's only the friggin subject of your post!

Evidently, you haven't had your coffee yet.

I'm talking about the actual quote. Not your false rephrase.
