Obama: McCain 'Snatching Defeat from Jaws of Victory' in Iraq

“Victory in Iraq”?

I hope every American saw this interview by ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopolous of Barack Obama. His obfuscation and stubbornness on the war in Iraq reveals to the American public his unwillingness to face reality and his own judgment about the most important national security issue of the decade since 9/11. The refusal to answer Stephanopolous’ questions really highlights the arrogance of the Obama campaign.

Obama is a bundle of contradictions, saying that John McCain wants to “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory” in Iraq, which is the first time he’s acknowledged that Iraq is in the “jaws of victory”. Obama pointed to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, saying he said “We are ready to take control and responsibility for what is happening in Iraq.” A minute later, Obama says Iraqis have not taken responsibility on any political progress or reconciliation, a myth rebutted by Stephanopolous who reminded Obama that 15 of the 18 benchmarks have been met. Obama pretends he doesn’t hear that.

Obama just cannot bring himself to admit he was completely wrong about the surge. Obama’s inability to define “victory”and avoidance of the word is creepy, like not putting your hand over your heart during the National Anthem or having flagophobia.

Americans have too much common sense to appreciate Obama’s verbal theatrics.

Victory seems to be beyond his pay-grade too.

Thanks Amy, I had not seen this. Hard to even know where to begin when commenting on it, there are so many things wrong with what he says in this short clip.

On the other hand, it pretty much speaks volumes for itself... and I agree, everyone needs to see as much Obama unscripted as possible.

I would like to add this to my site today... would that be OK (with the appropriate link back here of course :-) Not sure how to add it, not familiar with "BLIP", but would like to if I can figure it out.

Previous 5 years? Ummm... we didn't go into Iraq until 2003 but he has added a year on to that? Is he talking about Iraq or Afghasnistan or does he even know what he's talking about?

Amy: "... The refusal to answer Stephanopolous’ questions really highlights the arrogance of the Obama campaign."

SG: Interesting argument. I take it you have the same concerns about Mc'Cane' having Sarah '(R)eady-for-command' Palin in a virtual 'Cone of Silence' since the convention? Or t(R)oopergate, as reported in the Wall Street Journal:

"... All of the [Palin] officials had previously agreed to meet with the independent investigator looking into Gov. Palin's firing of Commissioner Walt Monegan in July ... But the [Palin] state officials canceled shortly before the depositions, just after Sen. McCain picked the governor as his running mate ... Now the governor's lawyer has forbidden her staff from any direct contact with the investigator, forcing the lawmakers to consider subpoenas..."

The Palin defense is that because the investigating committee is headed by a (D) it is political and partisan. However, "...The Palin spokesman, Mr. Griffin ... had no comment on the fact that leaders of both parties are supporting the subpoena hearing."

a(R)(R)ogance .... possibly, or another example of Bush-Mc'Cand' and avoidance of accountability for Abuse of Power?

It’s creepy that Obama cannot utter the word “victory” except as a political ploy to bash McCain. McCain has been right about Iraq all along and Obama proven to be wrong.

Keith, always feel free to use my entries. I’d appreciate a link to my entry. As for BlipTV, just click on the video interface to the right of center… the one next to the icon that looks like a book. It has 3 prongs. Then click the “embed” option and there you go.

You can also resize the video. Right now the width is 525 and height 340, but you can change it to whatever you want.

Steph, I think Obama’s comment about the past 5 years shows the concern Americans should have regarding his competence as C in C. What C in C evaluates victory based on the beginning and middle fo the war and not the end? What C in C doesn’t root for his side to win?

Obama’s point is that he wants the debate on the to remain in 2005-06. He is in complete denial. No, I correct myself; he is in a state of complete refusal. I think Americans are too smart to not see through Obama’s stupidity on this issue, and I don’t say that often.

Snerd, if Palin were in a cone of silence, why is she stumping every day with McCain, giving speech after speech? She’s been all over the place giving speeches supporting John McCain.
