BLUF's Video of New Zealand Vacation

I’ve had a lot of fun working on this the past couple days.  10 minutes worth of footage from my April 2009 vacation to New Zealand with my boys:

I neglected to capture some of the most endearing parts of New Zealand because I didn’t want to see New Zealand only behind the lens of a camera, so unfortunately you didn’t see this:

  • the city lights of Auckland
  • gorgeous green rolling hills filled with fields of sheep, lama and deer buttressed by majestic mountains on our way to Matamata (home of Hobbiton)
  • the cute little town of Matamata with their coffee shops and friendly people
  • the darling city streets of Wellington with its electric buses, quaint structures and bustling population
  • Wellington’s gorgeous aqua bays
  • the incredible open skies on our way from Christchurch to Geraldine and all the cute little sheep trying to escape their roomy boundaries and then trying to get back in after they made it out
  • the fascinating piles of large smoothed out rock sitting in the middle of green fields (washed there by a historic mammoth flood??)
  • the Aspen, Colorado-like center of Queenstown

Hope you enjoyed it anyway!

Amy: that's a really nice video, theres some amazing scenery in there. Just curious how expensive New Zealand is in general for the traveler/tourist. I really know nothing about it but it looks like a must see/bucket list type of destination.

Hi Amy. Very impressive! What wonderful scenery. Now I'm jealous... heh, heh. Glad you had a good time, and nice job on the video.

(:D) Best regards...

Great job, Amy. The family will get a kick out of the LOR references...again :)

BTW, to you and Johnny, Thank you for your service to our 'still great' nation and the freedoms we still enjoy because of your daily sacrifices. You guys make this country awesome!

HOOAH! OOYAH! (and OORAH! for you Jarheads who can read :D, LOL!)

bustling populations ? in a socialist country with a national healthcare plan ? SHOCKING !!!

If it makes you feel better, John, NZ isn't faring as well as the U.S. economically.

timo, NZ should be on everyone's bucket list. Airfare is the killer. The economy there is suffering more than here (gas is what $7 a gallon, unemployment is high) which makes everything affordable. I stayed at 4 star hotels for $100 a night or under. Some really decent hotels for $65. Rental cars are expensive there, but don't rent at the airports-take a taxi to the nearest car rental place instead.

If you're a Lord of the Rings fan at all, it's a must-see country. It looks exactly like it does in trilogy. If not, there's the Mt Cook National Park with incredible walking trails for all skill levels, lots of water sports, swimming with dolphins (there are no predataors in NZ-no sharks, bears, snakes... it's great), there's the northern beaches... lots do to.
