Israel Captures Ship With 500 Tons of Iranian Weapons Bound for Syria

JERUSALEM— Israeli officials tallied up hundreds of tons of weapons seized from a commandeered ship Thursday as Lebanon’s Hezbollah guerrillas denied that the arms were meant for them.

Israeli naval commandos, acting on intelligence reports, boarded the ship before dawn in waters off Cyprus Wednesday and discovered that the cargo included hundreds of crates of rockets, missiles, mortars, anti-tank weapons and munitions.

How’s that diplomacy with Iran and Syria working for you, Mr. President?

I'm sure their's a rational explanation for this Amy.

I'm sure their's a rational explanation for this Amy.

Of course there is but don't expect the MSM to give us one.

For 8 years under GW Bush the Iranian government moved forward with its nuclear ambition/development...did that policy really work?

November 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertimo

Classic timo. You can't defend Obama so just attack Bush. The old "yeah Obama sucks but Bush sucked first" argument. But I see your point. Obama is an abysmal failure when it comes to dealing with Iran but Bush was a failure first so we need to give Obama a pass. Yes, that's totally rational.

November 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTim

lol!

Had GWB had his way, Iran would be a glass beach. But that offended the sensibilities of powder cake liberals who just couldn't imagine why Iran would have nefarious intentions developing 'glowbees'.

Interestingly, this is the first I've heard of this. Did you scoope the MSM Amy? LOL!

November 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGary

Why is it when the liberals have no way of defending Pres. Obama, immediately they go on the attack of President Bush? Too funny.

BHO needs to take some lessons from Israel.

November 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeticia

First of all, I'm not supporting what we are doing with Iran under Obama, i'm just saying the right wing hawks act like Bush's policy was great and now its sooo different under Obama...i don't see any difference. And Gary, the thought of turning Iran into a glass beach is assinine...are you saying if bush had his way he would have nuked 72million people..i hope ur wrong about his "way". I support diplomacy first, force last but I agree that I haven't seen much from Obama in either direction on this issue.

The Syrians and Hezbollah remind me of that famous Leslie Nielson quote... "Nothing to see here. Please disperse"... See the video clip HERE.

Amy some problems are impossible for the POTUS to solve. Short of war with Iran Bush could not stop the Iranians. His constant threats of "all options are on the table" were laughed at by Iran. As far as these arms Israel ahas already said they believe it is only a small portion of what Hezbollah has in its inventory, and yes most of its inventory was amassed under Bush. Israel knows that its days of invading Lebanon now come at a high price to its army. And Amy why is it that a staunch pro lifer like yourself likes Israel so much ? They have more abortions than the USA ? And state funded socialist healthcare to pay for it. Jewish law does not consider the fetus to be human, unlike Islam which has VERY strict rules concerning abortion.

So Iran is shipping military stuff to Syria. That is no concern of ours. Iran has no military hardware that can reach our shores and poses no threat to the US and certainly Syria doesn't. Don't y'all believe in free trade after all?

November 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCharles

Go ahead and take cheap shots at GWB. But history will vindicate his Iran policy. Look at a map. We have removed two tyrannical regimes on Iran's eastern and western borders. Iran's young population is rising up against the Mullahs. With 200,000 US troops on Iran's eastern and western flanks and a function Shiite-majority democracy in Iraq, I think the Bush policy was brilliant. The best weapon against tyranny is liberty. If Tehran falls, it will be largely because the Bush policies destabilized the Mullah state with actions taken in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The MSM is ignoring this story. They adore Obama who like his mentor Jeremiah Wright deplore the Iraeli state. Good for Israel on the snatch!

November 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJohnny

Charles, I don't even care to respond to your comments. They're so irrelevent.

Obama blew a critical opportunity months ago when students and other Iranians rose up against the government and bogus election victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He congratulated Ahmadinejad on his victory and stuck his thumb in the eye of the struggling Iranians so desperate for real freedom. Way to go, Obama. There's some good experience for you.

Then he sided with the socialist leader of Honduras who illegally overrode their constitution to gain a 3rd term... again, siding against the Honduran people who want democracy.

Is anyone else seeing a pattern here?

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmy Proctor

Only pattern I see is our President thinks tyrannery is the coolest thing on earth. I wouldn't be surprised if he didnt' want to give it a try himself one day. Granted, he would probably be swept aside once the real powers that be stepped in to take the whole cake, but hey, at least he played his part.

This is all speculation, of course.

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFoxx

Charles,

Since Amy won't respond, I will. We have "allies" for a reason. Allies work together, watch each others back, support each other. Why? Because some day you might need your friend as much as they need you right now.

Obama has dissed just about every one of our most important allies, and made overtures to our most despised enemies. That's not the way to "Win Friends and Influence People" (look it up). He'll throw anyone under the bus when it's convenient for him. He's a foreign policy idiot.

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHawkeye

And Gary, the thought of turning Iran into a glass beach is assinine...are you saying if bush had his way he would have nuked 72million people..i hope ur wrong about his "way". I support diplomacy first, force last but I agree that I haven't seen much from Obama in either direction on this issue.
Not Timo, I'm saying GWB wanted to increase the heat on Iran and force their hand, but after 2006 could not do so because he became a 'lame duck president' meaning, Democrats took the House and the Senate. The context of my statement was meant to expose the willy-nilly spirit of the left who, like BHO, thinks we can talk our adversaries into submission.

What so many cannot seem to grasp is we've been 'talking' to Iran since Clinton was in office, and clearly, it has resolved bupkis. GWB was ready to cause affect on Iran, and the Middle East would look a lot different now if he had. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, UIE, and many other Islamic nations would have supported the de-arming of a radical country like Iran.

On another note, there’s a gal in my office who, like many other folk from Iran calls herself Persian. Her brother is here in SoCal with her, but her family remains in Tehran. They are Zoroastrian in faith which means they are second class citizens though she is one of the brightest people I know. The aggression towards the Western world is something we are all familiar with, but ‘T’ has a real perspective of the oppression she and her family suffers daily.

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGary

Amy, can you provide a link of where Obama "congratulated" Ahmadinejad, i don't recall this. Do you have proof of this, I couldn't find it online. What i do recall is most analysts from both parties saying we needed to stay out of the country's elections and the protests because otherwise we'd get backlash in the region and both the elections and the protests would lack legitimacy. The iranian people need to stand up on thier own, its not our job to give freedom to people who don't want it.

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertimo

We are seeing the Iranian protesters accuse BO Body Odor of being on the same side as AssIlovejihad.

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMike

Why do i care about some Iranian protestors? Those on the right criticized obama for being cheered and welcomed by most in the middle east after the election. Now your saying its important that some are critical of him. Which is it? It can't be bad both ways.

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertimo

Now look who is oversimplifying the situation. The fact is that Obama wants to play nice with a madman. It's nice to see that the Islamic world is not with the crazy people.

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMike

Why do i care about some Iranian protestors? Those on the right criticized obama for being cheered and welcomed by most in the middle east after the election.

The difference is Obama has yet to kill his protestors. As I said earlier, my co-worker's family is still in Tehran, and during the protests were unwilling to leave their house becuase so many were being slaughtered. Yeah, the MSM reported scattered violence, but what wasn't reported was the 100s if not thousands that disapeared and then were later found dead.
